I can’t believe I haven’t posted anything yet about the Steel Panther show on April 7 at the 9:30 Club in DC. So here it is. In support of their 2009 release Feel The Steel, the Panther rocked their entire album minus one song, “Stripper Girl.” Apparently they decided to leave this song out of their set because “they couldn’t close a metal show with a ballad.” So they covered Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart” instead. Earlier in the show we were treated to original gems such as “Community Property,” “Fat Girl,” “Party All Day,” and “The Shocker.”
This was my fourth time seeing Steel Panther, two times at the Key Club in Hollywood, and once at the M3 Rock Festival last year. They tend to do mostly covers in their LA shows, and while the set was all original songs at the M3 Festival, it was an outside show in the afternoon – not an ideal Panther setting. So the 9:30 Club show definitely met expectations. They are now playing regularly at the House of Blues in Hollywood, so if you are in LA, they are a must!
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get many good shots of the show, but here are a couple. I also have a few more on my tumblr feed.
After the show, Coach and I went to the downstairs bar to have a final drink, where we saw Lexxi Foxxx without his signature hair. I had to do a double take to realize who he was. Still, Lexxi, Satchel, Stix, and Michael are the hardest rocking band out there.
